If you are replacing a door, start by measuring the one you have. A few millimetres can make a difference, and the thickness matters just as much as the height and width.
In our range, you will find internal and entrance doors at 2040 mm high, along with some taller 2340 mm options. The right size depends on the design and whether you are keeping the existing frame. Here is how to narrow it down.
Door sizes at a glance
Door measurements are written as height × width × thickness. All sizes below are in millimetres.
| Door type | Example size (mm) |
|---|---|
| Internal door | 2040 × 820 × 35 |
| Entrance door | 2040 × 820 × 40 |
| Taller entrance door | 2340 × 820 × 40 |
| Timber screen door | 2040 × 820 × 25 |
These are door sizes, not the dimensions of the frame or the opening in your wall. Use them to compare options, then check the specifications for your chosen design.
Choosing an internal door
Replacing an internal door is easier when you know the size of the existing panel. Measure its height, width and thickness before browsing designs, especially if you plan to keep the frame and hinges.
For example, our Colonial internal doors are listed at 2040 mm high and 35 mm thick, in widths of 620, 720, 770, 820, 870 and 920 mm. That gives you a range of widths to compare with your measurements.
Once you know the dimensions, browse the internal door range for a style that suits the room. Check the individual design before ordering, as sizes vary across the collection.
Choosing a front door
Start with the whole entrance. Are you replacing a single door in its frame, or changing the frame, sidelites or layout as well? Keeping the existing frame means its dimensions and hardware will help determine your choice. A new assembly needs to be measured as a whole.
The Colonial external range includes 2040 mm-high doors in widths of 820, 870 and 920 mm, all 40 mm thick. It also includes a taller 2340 × 820 × 40 mm option. The Access range offers additional 2040 mm-high widths, including 620, 720 and 770 mm.
Take your measurements with you when comparing entrance door designs. A design you like may be available in more than one size, and you can discuss custom sizes with our team.
Does the door size include the frame?
No. The door itself is often called the door leaf. The frame surrounds it, so a frame made to suit a 2040 × 820 mm door will have different overall measurements.
This is easy to miss when looking at a door-and-frame combination. Our external frame specifications list the door sizes they suit; those numbers are not the outside dimensions of the frame. For a new frame, ask for its overall dimensions and the opening it needs before arranging the work.

How to measure before you order
- Measure the existing door. Record the height on both sides, the width at the top, middle and bottom, and the thickness. Write down any differences rather than rounding them away.
- Keep frame measurements separate. Label them clearly so they cannot be confused with the door size.
- Take a few photos. Include the whole doorway, hinges and latch. Note which way the door opens and whether there is a screen door or sidelite.
- Confirm the fit. Give the measurements to your installer and confirm the selected door and frame before ordering.
What if your door is a different size?
You do not have to guess which listed size is closest. We offer custom sizes on request for ranges including Colonial and Access, as well as external frames. Send your actual measurements and preferred design so we can discuss the options with you.
If you are adding a timber screen door, check it separately. Our listed size is 2040 × 820 × 25 mm, and it needs to work with the main door and its hardware. Screen mesh is not supplied.
